The House of Representatives has passed on third reading the bill that mandates the setting up of free Wi-Fi in public places.

Free internet access is guaranteed by the newly approved House Bill 5225.

The measure mandates free Wi-Fi in public areas like public schools.

Kabataan Party-list Representative Sarah Elago says, although this may be a good news for many Filipinos, what the country urgently needs is fast and affordable internet service, which it sorely lacks.

The Philippines is lagging behind other neighbouring Asian countries in terms of speedy and cheap internet service.
