SWS: Carnapping and robbery cases up in Metro Manila

Carnapping incidents have risen in Metro Manila.

These criminal activities are at their highest level since the last two and a half years.

This finding is part of the results from a Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey conducted from March 25 to 28, 2017 among 1,500 respondents nationwide.

The study shows, the crime of carnapping in the National Capital Region (NCR) increased by 3.4 percent.

The figure used to be at only one percent last December.

The prevalence of carnapping incidents peaked at 3.5 percent in September 2014.

Meanwhile, SWS has also found an increase in the number of crimes committed against people’s properties.

Respondents who said they were victimized by street robbers went up to 5.3 percent.

It used to be at 3.3 percent in December 2016.

The number of families attacked by burglars has gone up by 1.9 percent.

This indicates a slight increase from 1.8 percent four months ago.
