Local authorities and the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) have observed that no big group of passengers are stranded in the streets of Metro Manila on Monday morning.

Light traffic flow has also been observed along main highways.

This situation prevails because school classes and work in government were suspended to keep commuters from experiencing shortage in transportation amid due the jeepney transport strike.

Along Sangandaan in Monumento, Caloocan, transport group PISTON is holding a program along the center island.

Their members are trying to convince jeepney drivers to stop transporting passengers.

Some policemen are present in the area.

Along Mendiola in Manila, militant groups are holding a protest rally.

Many jeepney drivers say, they did not join the strike since they are not PISTON members.

The organizers of the transport strike condemn government's plan to phase out old jeepneys under its transportation modernization program.

In Baclaran, Paranaque City, there are no stranded commuters along makeshift terminals and light traffic has been observed along the roads.

MMDA trucks also gave free rides.
