Airbus SAS to establish training facility in Manila

Airbus SAS is opening a training center in Manila, said the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines Sunday.

CAAP Director General William Hotchkiss III said he welcomed the after the firm’s representative, Thiery Martin lll, sough his support for endorsement to the Board of Investment.

“The setting of training center is seen as a major initiative supporting the CAAP’s current efforts to support the type rating training of the growing aviation industry,” said Hotchkiss.

“The center will also be the first that will be equipped with a brand new A330/A340 Full Flight Simulator and associated suite of devices on top of two A320 simulator.”

Airbus SAS has subsidiaries in the United States, China, Japan, India, and the Middle East; spare parts centers in Hamburg, Frankfurt, Washington, Beijing and Singapore, and training centers in Toulouse, Miami, Hamburg, Beijing and Bangalore in India; with field service offices around the world.

Hotchkiss said that being part of the Airbus Approved Training Organization (ATO), the center would always be updated with the latest training standards thus improving the quality of training that could put the Philippines to become an international site for Airbus training that will serve the ever-increasing Airbus fleet in the region.

France-based Airbus SAS manufactures commercial aircraft (Airbus family), double-deck aircraft, passenger aircraft, corporate jets, freighter aircraft, and military aircraft.

A consultancy firm in Sydney, Australia, Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation said about 1,600 aircraft are operating in Southeast Asia of which 850 are in China. Airbus forecasts more than 34 percent, or 9,160 of global aircraft orders until 2030 are destined for the Asia-Pacific region.

Industry sources estimate that up to 2030 about 130,000 pilots will be needed to fly 9,160 new aircraft requiring support of 215,300 aircraft technicians.
