The Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs, chaired by Senator Panfilo Lacson, has begun its investigation into the death of Korean businessman Jack Ick Joo on October 18, 2016 at the PNP Headquarters in Camp Crame Quezon City.

The PNP Anti-kidnapping Group made a presentation on Jee’s abduction and killing.

Present in the inquiry on Thursday morning are Department of Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre, PNP Chief Ronald dela Rosa, PNP Anti-Illegal Drugs Group-Pampanga head Supt. Raphael Dumlao who is being implicated in the murder and SPO3 Ricky Sta. Isabel who allegedly strangled Jee to death.

In his opening statement, Lacson stressed the need to conduct the probe because the slay of the Hanjin executive is “enough for the public to lose its trust in the PNP.”

The lawmaker described the crime as “uncanny, inconceivable and totally unprecedented.”

Dela Rosa also made an opening remark.

He said, “I am truly saddened and overcome with shame that he was murdered right inside PNP’s home in Camp Crame.”

He added, evidence points to “a web of criminal activities” perpetrated by some police officials.

Also in the hearing are Jee’s widow, Choi Kyung-jin and their maid, Marisa Morquicho, who was abducted along with Jee and then later freed.
