The Judiciary’s proposed budget for 2017 has been reduced by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).

The judiciary submitted to the DBM an original proposed budget of P 40.4-billion.

But the DBM cut the amount to P 32.5-billion, which is P 7.8-billion lower than the Supreme Court’s proposal.

The reduced figure of P 32.5 billion is still 21% higher than the judiciary’s previous annual allocation.

Deputy Court Administrator Raul Villanueva says, almost all offices in the judiciary are experiencing decrease in the budget.

He notes, only the allocation for the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) will be raised, if Congress approves DBM’s proposal.

PET stands to have a 7% increase and the additional fund will be used for the salary hikes of employees.
