The Metro Manila Development Authority on Tuesday said portions of EDSA will be closed to vehicular traffic starting Feb. 25 to make way for the celebration of the 29th anniversary of the People Power Revolution.

MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino said that EDSA northbound from Shaw Boulevard to Santolan will  be closed starting midnight until 4 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 25).

Tolentino said he would deploy  1,104 men from the agency’s traffic and clearing operations units to man traffic along EDSA, and guide motorists traversing the alternate routes.

“Our men will strictly supervise the execution of the traffic management plan that will sustain the unimpeded flow of vehicles,” he said.

Affected by the MMDA road closure include:

Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle will lead a Mass at the EDSA Shrine, after the wreath-laying ceremony at the People Power Monument.

EDSA People Power Commissioner Emily Abrera had said the government was preparing a “simple” celebration this year to highlight the 30th People Power anniversary next year.

The four-day peaceful uprising, where thousands gathered at Epifanio delos Santos Avenue, resulted in the exile of Marcos and his family and the installation of Corazon “Cory” Aquino to the presidency.
