The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) initiated “SWEEPtember,” a month-long price and market monitoring campaign aimed at ensuring the availability and affordability of essential goods in the wake of recent tropical cyclones.
The initiative intensifies the monitoring of basic necessities and prime commodities in wet markets and supermarkets in the National Capital Region.
DTI aims to safeguard consumers from profiteering and ensure access to affordable and safe products, aligning with the Marcos Jr. administration’s priorities.
The DTI is working with local price councils to maintain fair pricing and support legitimate businesses.
The campaign launched in Parañaque City, with inspections revealing full compliance with fair trade practices and accurate calibration of weighing scales.
Acting Trade secretary Cristina Roque emphasized the government’s dedication to ensuring the affordability and accessibility of basic necessities and prime commodities.
