Philippines receives donations from UAE for ‘Carina’ victims

The Philippine government received donations from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the victims of super typhoon ‘Carina.’ The relief packages were turned over Tuesday evening at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2.

The donations included 2,464 bags of food items such as milk powder, wheat flour, tea, rice, cooking oil, red lentils, peas, dates, powdered juice drinks, oats, tomato paste, sugar and salt; 4,928 packs and cans of pasta, sweet corn, green peas, red kidney beans; 9,856 cans of tuna and chickpeas.

Special Envoy to the UAE for Trade and Investments, Ma. Anna Kathryna Yu-Pimentel thanked the Middle nation and its leadership on behalf of the Philippine government for extending aid to Filipino calamity victims.

“This generous donation from the UAE government is a testament to the deepening bilateral relations between the UAE and the Philippines under the leadership of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.,” Yu-Pimentel said.

“We are profoundly grateful to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the UAE government for their unwavering support in this trying time,” she added.

Yu-Pimentel said the recent visit of First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos to the UAE further solidified the strong ties between the two countries.

“We thank PBBM for his decisive leadership and swift action to help our countrymen.”

In its latest bulletin, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said typhoon ‘Carina,’ tropical depression ‘Butchoy,’ and habagat affected 3,628,500 individuals or 971,667 families.
