President Ferdinand Marcos on Friday evening ordered all relevant
government agencies to take action to secure the well-being of the
public following a magnitude 6.8 earthquake that hit Mindanao.

“The President has instructed every relevant government agency to
promptly take action to ensure the safety and well-being of those
affected,” Presidential Communications Office Secretary Cheloy Garafil
said in a message to the reporters.

The President is currently in the United States for the Asia Pacific
Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit.

Mindanao was rocked by the earthquake, which was initially logged as a
magnitude 7.2 before the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and
Seismology (Phivolcs) later downgraded the earthquake to 6.8.

Phivolcs reported that the earthquake struck at 4:14 p.m. local time,
at a depth of 72 kilometers, approximately 34 kilometers northwest of
Sarangani town.
