Tropical Depression (TD) Rosal will dampen several areas in Luzon as well as Western Visayas, the weather bureau said Saturday.

In its 5 p.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Rosal will cause moderate to heavy, with at times intense rains over the Bicol Region and Quezon province.
’rosal’…The TD will also bring moderate to heavy rains over Mimapora and Western Visayas.

“Rosal” is forecast to intensify while moving over the Philippine Sea and reach the tropical storm category in the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, a magnitude 5.6 earthquake rocked Davao Oriental early Saturday and was felt in nearby towns, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The tectonic quake was located 51 kilometers southeast of Governor Generoso town. Intensity 4, which feels like the vibration from the passing of a light truck, was felt in the area.

The tremor struck at a depth of 61 kilometers around 4:01 a.m. There was no expected damage from the earthquake, but Phivolcs warned of aftershocks.

“Rosal” is forecast to cause light to moderate with at times heavy rains over Aurora province and the rest of Calabarzon and the Visayas.

Flooding and rain-induced landslides are expected, especially in areas highly susceptible to these hazards, according to PAGASA.

Meanwhile, tropical cyclone wind signal no. 1 has been hoisted over the northern portion of Catanduanes (Pandan, Gigmoto, Bagamanoc, Panganiban, Viga, Caramoran). These areas may experience strong winds.

In the next 24 hours, occasional gusts associated with the northeast monsoon may also be experienced over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Apayao, and the northern portion of Ilocos Norte and Cagayan provinces.

Rough to very rough seas may prevail over the seaboards of Batanes, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, the northern coast of Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, and the eastern coast of Cagayan.

PAGASA advised fishing boats and other small sea vessels not to venture out into the sea, and larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves.

It is also expected to weaken into a tropical depression on Monday, and further weaken into a remnant low on Tuesday.
