NDRRMC: Paeng’s death toll rises to 160, with 29 missing

Tropical storm Paeng’s death toll has reached 160 people, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Saturday.

The NDRRMC clarified of this number, 132 deaths have been confirmed, while 28 were still being validated.

On the other hand, reported missing persons also rose to 29, of which 19 were confirmed and 10 up for validation.

In the injury department, 146 were reported but only 108 of them have been confirmed.

The NDRRMC also said 1,357,807 families consisting of 5,410,102 individuals were affected by Paeng in 17 regions, 74 provinces, 834 cities/municipalities, and 10,056 barangays.

The estimated cost of damage to infrastructure reached P5.43 billion, while agricultural losses were placed at P6.39 billion.

Paeng first made landfall over Camarines Sur on October 29 then cut across Luzon mainland, triggering flooding and landslides in several areas.

It left the country on October 31, leaving in its wake 523 cities and municipalities declared under a state of calamity, the NDRRMC said.
