Super typhoon Henry (international name: Hinnamnor) entered the Philippine area of responsibility on Wednesday afternoon, the state weather bureau said.

Henry may reach a peak intensity of 205 kilometers per hour before gradually weakening, and is not expected to hit land, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

But it could enhance the southwest monsoon and bring rains over the western section of Luzon from Friday, the weather bureau added.

Meanwhile, tropical depression Gardo may weaken and merge with Henry, PAGASA said.

Gardo continued to maintain its strength while moving northward east of extreme Northern Luzon on Wednesday.

Its center was estimated at 1,080 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon, and moving north at 10 km/h with maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 70 km/h.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Wednesday cautioned the public to be on alert for the possible adverse effects of the two weather systems now affecting the country.

NDRRMC spokesperson and Office of Civil Defense Assistant Secretary Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV added that they are now monitoring possible effects of Gardo and Super Typhoon Henry on Batanes and other parts of extreme Northern Luzon.

Alejandro said the OCD has adequate relief supplies and funds to extend assistance to those who might be affected by the two weather disturbances.
