President Rodrigo Duterte and former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will attend the inauguration of Vice President-elect Sara Duterte-Carpio on June 19.

Duterte-Carpio’s team invited incumbent and past presidents as well as vice presidents to the event at San Pedro Square near the Davao city hall.

Outgoing Vice President Leni Robredo, however, will not be able to attend, as the event will coincide with the Naga City Charter Day.

“There is no schedule for us to have a face-to-face meeting with VP Robredo. The transition meetings between my team and the team of VP Leni Robredo have been concluded,” Duterte-Carpio said in a statement.

From June 17 to June 20, several roads surrounding the venue will be closed for the preparation and post-inauguration activities.

The event on June 19 will start with a thanksgiving Mass at 3 p.m. at the San Pedro Cathedral to be attended by Archbishop Romulo Valles.

For his part, President Duterte, who would step down on June 30, urged his daughter to continue his administration’s anti-illegal drugs programs in schools.

“This time, when I am no longer here, I will just tell Inday [Sara], ‘Take over. Take over this job,’” he said in his speech after witnessing the lowering of the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) of Metro Manila Subway Project in Valenzuela City.

“Imagine, in the Department of Education, there are many kids there. Do not ever allow contamination there. Use whatever you can. If you have to do it, do it. Me, I had to do it because nobody would do it for us,” the President added.
