The camp of senatorial candidate Jejomar Binay on Wednesday described the petition of blogger Mocha Uson with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) against the former  vice president as “laughable, pathetic, and desperate.”

Uson, Margaux Justiniano Uson in real life, wrote a letter asking the Comelec to check the health condition of Binay, saying she is concerned about the possibility that a leading senatorial candidate may no longer be capable of fulfilling his duties if elected.

“Following the mandate of the Commission on Elections as the primary guardian of the ballot and protector of the people’s right of suffrage. I write to you as a concerned citizen and voter in the coming elections,” she said.

In the interest of full transparency, Uson said, she prays that the poll body can check if Binay is physically and mentally fit and able to perform his duties for the benefit of the Filipino people.

Binay’s spokesperson Joey Salgado reacted, saying Uson’s “so-called petition is laughable, pathetic, and desperate.”

Salgado said Binay is presently campaigning in Isabela and campaigning.

“Yesterday, May 3, he toured Cagayan and the towns of Isabela. He went to the markets, took selfies with people, and talked to local officials.

On May 2, the former vice president went to Davao City and made a courtesy call to vice presidential candidate and former Mayor Sara Duterte,” he said.

Salgado said Binay also toured the provinces in Soccsksargen, talked to the people in the markets, and met with local officials. Prior to this, he added, Binay was in Pampanga with former President and Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Salgado said Binay has been busy since the campaign period. He added the former vice president did not join the rallies of the presidential candidates who took him as a guest senatorial candidate because this is what they agreed on.

“The activities of former VP Binay are on the Facebook page, maybe Ms. Uson can look at it,” he said.

Salgado said “It is unfortunate that there are those who want to tarnish the name of VP Binay, whose track record of service to our countrymen is clear, because he entered the Magic 12 in the senatorial race and is supported by Iglesia Ni Cristo, well-known political leaders and local officials, and of many of our countrymen.”

Binay is running for senator in the May 9 national and local elections under the United Nationalist Alliance.
