246 airport projects completed under Duterte admin—CAAP

The government has completed more than 200 airport projects under the administration of President Duterte, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said on Monday.

CAAP cited a report from Transportation assistant secretary for the aviation and airports sector Jaime Alberto Melo stating that 246 airport projects have been completed  from 2016 to 2022,

The government has also completed the improvement and upgrading several airports nationwide, the report stated.

Among the notable projects were the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA), Bohol-Panglao International Airport (BPIA), New Clark International Airport (CIA), and the Bicol International Airport (BIA).

The CAAP also cited the increase in the number of night-rated airports and the installation of additional 13 Communications, Navigation Surveillance / Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) systems, ensuring a 100 percent coverage of the country’s airspace.

On Monday, the new passenger terminal building of Clark International Airport (CRK) was officially opened. The state-of-the-art facility was envisioned to be Asia’s next premier gateway.


The design capacity of the 110,000-sqm new terminal building can handle a total of eight million passengers every year. Joel Zurbano
