The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority announced it will enforce a road closure along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue near the People Power Monument today to give way to the Duterte Legacy Caravan.

Based on the advisory from the agency’s Public Information Office, one lane along EDSA northbound from Corinthians Gate up to Aguinaldo Gate and White Plains-westbound from Temple Drive up to EDSA will be closed to vehicular traffic from 2 a.m. to 12 noon.

The MMDA is in charge of traffic management, emergency response, and clearing operations after the program. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and take alternate routes to avoid inconvenience.

In a separate statement, the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) and other government agencies will join in honoring Filipino workers for their hard work and dedication in the celebration of Labor Day, or International Workers’ Day, through the Duterte Legacy Caravan.

The event is dubbed “Pagkakaisa ng Mamamayan at Pamahalaan Tungo sa Pagbangon, Kapayapaan at Kaunlaran” (Duterte Legacy: Barangayanihan Caravan Towards National Recovery) and will be held at the EDSA People Power Monument and simultaneously in various provinces.

According to NTF-ELCAC vice-chairman and National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon, the celebration is to show the Filipinos the efforts and interventions made by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s whole-of-nation approach in making a positive change for all Filipinos, especially the vulnerable communities previously terrorized by Communist Terrorist Groups (CTGs).

“This is President Duterte’s gift or his way of extending the services of government to all Filipinos, especially our hardworking laborers, and at the same time commending their contributions to the economy and Philippine progress,” Esperon said.

The NSA added that the President believes in how his whole-of-government approach should work to serve Filipino workers and their families, including the communities to which they belong.

“This is to give them a genuine peace and order, free from the harassment and terrorism of the Communist Party of the Philippines – New People’s Army – National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF), that will usher in true economic progress,” Esperon added.

Traffic enforcers will be deployed to guide the affected motorists while members of the Sidewalk Clearing Group personnel will be on hand to assist crowd control measures.

Emergency assistance will also be provided for those who need medical help at first-aid stations. Ambulances will also be positioned at key areas.

Motorists from EDSA northbound lane may take McKinley Road to C-5 Road to destination; Right at Kalayaan Avenue to C-5 Road to destination; Take Rockwell flyover, straight to Kalayaan Avenue right at P. Burgos and utilized Makati Mandaluyong Bridge; Right at J.P. Rizal to C-5 Road to destination; Right at Pioneer Street to C-5 Road to destination; Right at Shaw Boulevard to C-5 Road to destination, and Right at J. Vargas Avenue to C-5 Road to destination.

Along Ortigas Avenue, motorists are advised to use Greenhills to EDSA and must go straight along Ortigas Ave. to their destination, and right-turning traffic from Meralco Ave. must go straight to Greenhills to their destination.

From EDSA southbound lane, right to Santolan, left turn to Ortigas Ave then right turn to EDSA to point of destination, and or right at Wilsons, left at P. Guevarra and Shaw Blvd, right turn to EDSA to point of destination.
