The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will enforce a “stop-and-go” traffic scheme along Roxas Blvd. and Diokno Blvd, in Manila in connection with this year’s World Travel and Tourism Council Global Summit.

The setup, according to the MMDA Public Information Office, will be imposed starting today from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
A total of 415 MMDA personnel would be deployed to ensure the smooth flow of vehicular traffic in the area.

Motorists are advised to take alternate routes.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) hosts the conference, a first for the Philippines, to be held April 20 to 22.

Tourism Secretary Berna Romulo-Puyat said the convention would open discussions between industry stakeholders, organizations, and governments to support economic recovery through the restarting of travel and tourism, and attracting investments centered on the safe and secure reopening of the industry.

She added that hosting the meeting would be advantageous to the Philippines, as it showcases what the country could offer to the world in terms of boosting investments.

“Through this event, we aim to stimulate discussions on how to solve the social, environmental, and economic challenges faced by the global travel and tourism industry. Likewise, we aim to increase the public’s appreciation for the travel and tourism industry’s role as a driver of economic growth, livelihoods and employment, and sustainable development,” Romulo-Puyat said.
