Binay backs move to bring vax drive to provinces

United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) party senatorial candidate Jejomar Binay on Wednesday expressed his support to the government’s effort to bring the COVID-19 vaccination drive to provinces with a considerable number of unprotected residents.

The former vice president said if the government achieves its vaccination target, the pace of economic recovery would increase.

While the government would still need to provide aid to sectors and small Filipino entrepreneurs, Binay said the public should do its part by having themselves vaccinated and observing health protocols.

“We need to work together to hasten our recovery from the pandemic. On the part of government, it should continue to provide assistance to sectors who are still struggling from the economic impact of the pandemic,” he said.

Health officials had said they will now shift the government’s vaccination efforts to small localities outside Metro Manila.

Some 65 million individuals have been fully immunized against COVID-19 as of March 15, they said. This is five million short of government’s target of 70 million.
