A training aircraft crash-landed injuring a flight instructor and his student Monday morning in Davao Oriental.

Flight instructor Capt. Manuel Nierra II and student pilot Jeremiah Agonia were rushed to the Mati Provincial Hospital due to head and body injuries.

Initial reports from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines showed that the Cessna-150 aircraft owned and operated by Mactan Aviation Tech Center, Inc. crash-landed at around 7;40 a.m. in Barangay Don Martin Marundan in Mati.

The aircraft, bearing the registry number RP-C 9005, took off Mati Airport’s Runway 14 around 7:30 a.m. for touch and go landing but experienced a technical problem causing the aircraft to dive down and crash.

“The crash, which partially damaged the aircraft happened at approximately one kilometer from the runway end,” said CAAP chief information officer and spokesman Eric Apolonio.
