Vice President Leni Robredo is endorsing the senatorial candidacy of Sorsogon Gov. Francis “Chiz” Escudero, her erstwhile rival in the 2016 vice presidential race.
She said Escudero reached out and offered his help to her and the Office of the Vice President to find funds for its programs amid its measly budget allocation.
“I owe Governor Escudero a lot. He has never told anyone about it… that he helped the OVP,” she said.
“It was a common knowledge that we were rivals in 2016 but still Governor Chiz reached out to after I won. When I was still starting as VP, he helped my office look for fundings for our programs,” Robredo added.
Escudero is a guest senatorial candidate under the Robredo-Kiko Pangilinan team for the 2022 polls.
The Vice President believes Escudero has more to offer and do for the Filipino people if he is elected as senator.
“His return to the Senate is something because we all know that when he was then a senator, he is one of the pillars. Actually, whether governor or senator, he is an asset,” she added.
Meanwhile, Robredo on Thursday visited Padre Garcia in Batangas with her running mate Pangilinan, greeted by scores of supporters.
The Vice President said she would center on bringing back the government to the people, which she has learned from her late husband Jesse Robredo.
