SpaceDC, a Singapore-based visionary data center provider, is working with global real estate services firm JLL to build a $700-million (about P35 billion), network-rich, data center called MNL1, which will be situated in Cainta, part of Greater Manila.

“The Philippines ranks second in terms of data center growth in Southeast Asia. With only 47MW of available capacity in the country it is a dramatically underserved market. We are excited to be a first mover in a new market where we see our customers are investing heavily in,” said SpaceDC CEO Darren Hawkins.

The green data center which will be fully powered with renewable energy – wind and geothermal – is slated to open this year.

At 43,000 square meters, MNL1 will be the largest hyperscale data center campus in the Philippines and will deliver 72 megawatts (MW) of critical power, the company said in a statement.

With an outstanding PUE of 1.3, MNL1 will also lead in terms of energy efficiency and design to minimize its carbon footprint. “SpaceDC is in the right place at the right time to take advantage of the strong customer interest we are seeing in the Philippines. MNL1’s design is setting new standards in terms of technology, quality and operational excellence in the Philippines,” JLL executive director for data center services Ralph Davidson, who is also the appointed project construction manager, said.

Its N+1 design can comfortably accommodate up to 15 kW to facility’s 48x 1,500 kW data halls before additional cooling support is required.
With 100 percent green power supply, MNL1 is the Philippines first and only green data center.

An outstanding design PUE of 1.3 leads the way in energy efficiency and design, taking a positive step towards minimizing the industry’s carbon footprint, said Hawkins.

MNL1 also features diverse connectivity with local/international fiber presence, vendor neutral access, multiple MMRs and SDN. It also has direct cloud access and connectivity to over 400 data centers.

Tight security protocols will be in place within the entire facility, with eight layers of advanced physical security including remote monitoring, 24/7 CCTV, multiple biometrics certifications and digital touchpoints, alongside fire protection and grounding.

Topping everything else, MNL1 will have its own leading internet exchange as well as switch/ramps to cloud providers such as AWS,
Alibaba, and Azure.
