Free WiFi in public places sought

Senator Francis Pangilinan files a bill seeking to give free WiFi to people in public places.

Pangilinan says in advanced countries, 90 percent of the population enjoy free wireless internet.

Pangilinan cites a United Nations report that says only 39 percent of Filipinos have access to internet.

This is why in terms of information technology, the Phillipines is lagging behind and ranks 106th out of 191 countries.

The senator says Filipinos must have free WiFi whenever they are in government offices, public parks, government hospitals and transport hubs.

Pangilinan adds, internet access is very important for business and livelihood as well as in communications between Overseas Filipino Workers and their families.
