Unlike most professional boxers in their 30s, Charly Suarez is just getting started. And stronger.

Charly Suarez and Delmar Pellio both make weight for their 10-round super-featherweight bout.

The three-time Southeast Asian Games champion will continue his journey towards his world championship goal in the professional ranks.

The 33-year-old Olympian aims to get his streak going when he takes on another unbeaten fighter in Delmar Pellio in a 10-round super-featherweight dubbed the “Ultimate Knockout Challenge” boxing card on Saturday at the Elorde Sports Complex in Paranaque City.

“‘Yan naman ang ultimate goal ko ang world championship. Kaya every fight is an opportunity for me to improve my record,” said Suarez, who owns a streak of eight wins, 6 by knockout.

Pellio is unbeaten in nine appearances in the ring, four coming by stoppage.

What makes Suarez the more favored boxer and unique? He had vast international exposure during his amateur days and owns a unique training regimen that makes him a complete fighter. He also intends to continue representing the Philippines as a national boxer in the Vietnam SEA Games and hopefully, the Asian Games both slated for next year.

He has been competing in blue-chip tournaments since 2006 and has won gold medals in the 2009 (Laos), 2011 and 2019 editions of the SEA Games. He bagged the silver in the 2009 Incheon Asian Games and also qualified in the 2016 Rio Olympics, although he lost his first bout via close decision.

“Every fight para sa akin is an education. Matalo man o manalo, may natutunan ako. But I intend to keep my record improving para sa goal ko na world title,” vowed Suarez.

Pellio, on the other hand, started competing in 2017.

Suarez’s training regimen also included outdoor activities to relax his mind before going into another set of hard training.

“Enduro Factory has opened my eyes as to how life’s adventures aren’t just in a boxing ring, but in going out and spending time in the great outdoors,” added Suarez.

He also consults Brawner’s Holistic Therapy as “every time I get to finish a session with them it makes me feel I could go another 10 rounds.”

A victory today will put Suarez closer to a regional crown and hopefully, next would be a crack at a world title.
