Vice President Leni Robredo, the standard-bearer of the opposition, on Wednesday agreed to face-to-face presidential debates ahead of the May elections.

Robredo made the statement in the wake of presidential candidate Sen. Manny Pacquaio’s challenge for in-person debates among the presidential hopefuls.

“I agree with Sen. Manny Pacquiao because issues are better addressed during face-to-face debates,” she said at a news conference in Naga City.

“It’s difficult if debates are conducted online as issues are not thoroughly discussed. Candidates are not giving their opinions on certain issues at the same time,” Robredo added.

The Vice President said she looks forward to the faceoff among presidentiables soon.

Pacquiao earlier said he would want a face-to-face debate rather than through an online platform.

He said he would highlight his anti-corruption drive, economic growth and development, employment, livelihood, healthcare, and housing platforms during the presidential debate.
