Gov’t sees hitting 90% vax goal soon

The government is optimistic it can achieve its goal of inoculating 90 percent of eligible population before the election period next year, given the steady supply of COVID-19 vaccines in the country.

“We encourage everyone to be inoculated. We have enough supply of vaccines coming in, projection of almost 100 million this October,” said Assistant Secretary Wilben Mayor, chief of staff and spokesperson of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP).

Mayor made the statement after the arrival of additional 272,610 doses of government-procured Pfizer vaccines at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport last Monday.

He said the government is confident that 80 to 90 percent of the target population will be vaccinated against the coronavirus disease before the starts of the campaign for the May 9, 2022 elections, given the steady arrival of shipments along with the efforts of local government units and other implementing agencies to ramp up their vaccination rollout.
