New song ‘Bago Matulog’ reminds people to keep on hoping, going

When a song opens and ends with the same strong line, you can expect that everything in between is a stretch of wonderful music and message that go well together.

The band 46 Hope St. anchored its latest single “Bago Matulog” on a fine couplet that expresses the song’s crystal-clear theme. The track was dropped today in digital music stores, officializing it as the group’s third release this year.

The trio of musicians from Southern Manila captured the difference between this year’s prevailing mood and last year’s general dreadful feeling, emphasizing that they had been “inspired by the newfound hope of being able to look forward to a new morning after experiencing the darkest of dawns.”

Of course, that darkest of dawns could only be the year 2020 wherein the world was forced to lockdown cities and survive the onslaught of a virus which the year on our hands 2021 is rightly being addressed with a newfound hope through community vaccinations.

Released and published by rising label Widescope Entertainment, “Bago Matulog” firmly showcases the strength of frontman Meds Rana who wrote the heartfelt ballad and sang it as sincerely as possible, in addition to playing guitar and keyboard. As with the band’s first two singles, he is effectively supported by the efficient rhythm section of bassist Ryan Gonzales and drummer Aaron Dolleton.

With the evocative instrumental featured in the final minute and a half of the song, 46 Hope St. couldn’t be more fortunate to have been backed by Dino Akira Decena on violin and Jopi Bergara Doestra on cello.

The Tagalog record has pushed forth the current narrative that “we are not alone in this journey” as the band urges everyone to keep “trusting that there’s a perfect time for everything.”

As the song advices, “Kung di man umaayon ang nangyayari ngayon/ Alalahanin ang biyaya ng kahapon.”

Their latest offering is another proof of good collaboration as the group worked closely with celebrity-record producer Ebe Dancel and studio guy Peavey Nicolas who handled the recording, mixing, and mastering at the Baby Big Studios. The band likewise benefited from the able support of executive producer Vic De Vera and supervising producer Neil Gregorio.

Born and bred in the southern part of the nation’s capital region, 46 Hope St. ushered in their music with the engagingly upbeat “Parisukat sa Bilog” released in early January, right off the bat of a new, hopefully-better-from-the-previous year. A sophomore release came five months after, with “Bituin” introducing listeners to a group very much in touch with the sentimentality of today’s youth.

Insiders have agreed that this third salvo ensures that the troika’s early efforts were not a fluke and they’re here to keep the ball rolling without long lulls, while progressing both musically and lyrically.
