DITO Telecommunity Corp., the joint venture of businessman Dennis Uy and China Telecoms, expects subscribers to reach over two million by end of the year with the rollout of its mobile services in Metro Manila.

Uy, chairman and chief executive of DITO, said the company’s subscribers reached 500,000 subscribers since its mobile services were launched in March in the Visayas and Mindanao and selected areas in Luzon.

"Half a million subscribers only covers 54 cities and municipalities and with the addition of 46 to more than 100 cities and municipalities we expect that this [subscribers] will drastically increase," DITO chief technology officer Rodolfo Santiago said during the virtual launching in NCR.

Santiago said the company aimed to get 30 percent of the market share dominated by Globe Telecom Inc. and Smart Communications Inc.

Adel Tamano, chief administrative officer of DITO, said the 500,000 subscribers was a "big number" for the company.
