Eumir Marcial said he has learned how deal with the pressure and expectations of winning a gold medal in the Olympics.

Now training in his hometown in Zamboanga City, Marcial said his first professional fight last December gave him an idea of what to expect.

And this will help him deal with his inner self when Marcial finally sees action in the Tokyo Olympics.

“Na-manage ko na po ang pressure na makakuha ng gold. Na-manage ko na po ang mga expectations sa akin,” said Marcial in an interview on Power and Play.

Marcial decided to return to the country with the rest of the Philippine team after their  bid to participate in the Asian Boxing Championships in India was cancelled due to a surge in COVID-19 cases.

The Asian meet has now been set from May 21 to June 1 in the United Arab Emirates.

Marcial will be having his first fight in five months in Dubai.

Last December, the 25-year-old Marcial pulled off a  unanimous decision victory over American boxer Andrew Whitfield.

From that fight, Marcial said he has learned a lot about the techniques and strategies that he can use when he gets to Tokyo.

“Mula sa first fight ko, ginamit ko iyun para makabalik ako sa focus, makabalik ako sa training,” he said.

Marcial has gone to the United States in July last year to train under Freddie Roach.

While in Zamboanga, Marcial will do his workouts in a boxing gym complete with training equipment provided by sportsman Junnie Navarro, who also owns a basketball team in the Zamboanga Valientes.
