Victoria Court pushes for resumption of drive-in hotels’ full operations

Motorist hotel operator Victoria Court Group highlights its check-in and housekeeping procedures that protect its guests and employees in a bid to get the green-light from the Department of Tourism to resume its full operations.

“Drive-in motels are safer by design than regular hotels (and even walk-up motels), because the design focuses on privacy—which lends itself well to isolation and safety,” notes Victoria Court chief operating officer Sam Pineda.

Pineda points out the fewer face-to-face interactions in drive-ins compared with regular lodgings.

A staff in PPE cleans and sanitizes all frequently touched surfaces and items inside the room.

“We have very limited contact with guests. For one, we do not have lobbies or elevators where they can get exposed; guests have their own garages, they simply accomplish the health declaration forms online, their temperatures are taken, with social distancing observed at all times, then are immediately directed to their rooms,” he explains.

Pineda adds that all Victoria Court rooms are sanitized using UV light after each use. Frequently touched surfaces are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized by staff wearing personal protective equipment. Each room has an automatic alcohol dispenser.

Used linens are placed in individual plastic bags, wrapped, and brought to the dirty linen area where they are sprayed with disinfectant and left for 24 hours before they are picked up by the laundry contractor.

Disposable food containers are used for room service. Guests can check-out and pay online while inside their rooms using the QR code and cashless payment options such as GCash, Paymaya, GrabPay, WeChat, Alipay, debit or credit card, and bank transfer.

“We believe that with all these safety measures and health protocols being strictly observed, perhaps it is time for the DOT to re-evaluate its assessment of drive-in hotels. We are fully committed to cooperate with the government agencies concerned on any additional requirements if given the clearance to resume full operations,” says Pineda.
