Mitsubishi Power Ltd., a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Group, said Wednesday it received an order to upgrade the 458-megawatt MakBan Geothermal Power Plant in the provinces of Batangas and Laguna.

“The abundance of geothermal reserves in the Philippines makes it key to achieving the country’s decarbonization and energy security goals. As a world leader in geothermal power generating capacity and after-sales service, Mitsubishi Power is excited to partner with AP Renewables Inc. in upgrading the Makban Geothermal Power Plant and further unlocking the potential of this energy source to provide clean and reliable power to the Filipino people,” said Mitsubishi Power Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. managing director and chief executive Osamu Ono.

APRI owns and operates the Makban Geothermal Power Plant while Mitsubishi Power delivered the first geothermal power generating unit in 1979 with nine other units progressively installed over the next two decades until 1996.

Mitsubishi Power said it would supply a new set of steam turbine components with optimum design for Unit No. 1 in to optimize its performance and minimize geothermal steam consumption per power output.
