Angeles City—Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. and Clark International Airport Corporation’s (CIAC) Vice President for Operations IC Calaguas initiated a book project that would serve as a tribute to the late Carmelo “Tarzan” F. Lazatin, former Pampanga first district representative and the first ever three-termer Angeles City mayor.

The book will focus on the public service career of my father (Tarzan Lazatin),” the mayor said.

The elder Lazatin served as the first district representative of the province from 1987 to 1998. He became the first three-termer Angeles City mayor from 1998 to 2007. Afterwards, he served again congressman in 2007 to 2013.

He did not stop serving his constituents as he became the village chief of Barangay Balibago in 2018.

“We miss him every day. And every day he will be remembered not just by us, his family, but also by Angelenos and residents from Mabalacat City and Magalang town,” the younger Lazatin said.

The book will be composed of three sections, Calaguas said.

The first section will be dedicated to the late governor, mayor and assemblyman Rafael “Apung Peleng” Lazatin; the second part will be about the late mayor and congressman Lazatin; and the last section will feature the public service path of incumbent Lazatin brothers — Mayor Lazatin, and First District Representative Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II.

“His legacy in public service will never be forgotten. It will live on in the lives of many, through literature and word of mouth,” Calaguas said.

Considered one of the most trusted executives of Tarzan Lazatin, Calaguas served as executive assistant and chief of staff of the elder Lazatin for 19 years.

Calaguas and Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel, Lincoln Baluyut, who serve as the book’s admin board, already formed the editorial staff.

The book will be edited by veteran journalist Caesar “Bong” Lacson.

Other writers will be Pampanga Press Club President and long-time Philippine Daily Inquirer writer and contributor Tonette Orejas; Noel Tulabut, Arnel San Pedro; Marna Dagumboy-Del Rosario, Minerva Zamora; Joey Pavia, Arlyn Lukban, and Shairmaine Gonzalez.

The editorial board’s researchers are Irish Bonus-Llego, Mina Cabilles Jam Aguila, Leah Isidro De Fiesta, Joseph Rassel Santiago, and Sheiden Dela Cruz.

Jaypee Manalang will handle the book’s layout.
