MOVIE STAR. Make way for Zaijian Jaranilla as he topbills Star Cinema’s new coming- of-age comedy film ‘Boyette.’

Directed by Jumbo Albano, the film follows the story of Boyette (Zaijian), a 17-year-old asthmatic gay boy who was forced to pretend as a straight guy in order to join the prestige dance club where his childhood crush, Charles, is star dancer. Problem arises when he was likened by Nancy, the girl that Charles likes.

For Zaijian, who turned 19 two months ago, the film is not just another gay-themed story.

“In my point of view, it’s a story of teen gay who just wanted to be free. He’s afraid that society, the people around him will accept his true identity but the movie shows that although he’s physically weak, he’s very strong in many other aspects,” the young actor told Manila Standard Entertainment in a virtual interview.

Zaijian with ‘Boyette’ co-stars Maris Racal and Inigo Pascual.

“It’s a very personal story because it was inspired by my childhood and my won story. I couldn’t think of anyone who is better to play the role except for Zaijian,” shared the director.
