Former ONE Flyweight World Champion Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio is happy with his performance at ONE: INSIDE THE MATRIX III last Friday, November 13– but, surprisingly, he believes he could’ve done better.
Eustaquio dazzled to get a dominant unanimous decision win over “The Running Man” Song Min Jong, using his superior footwork and striking as he ran circles around the taller South Korean.
“I am satisfied with my performance, but I was really hoping to give the fans an impressive finish,” Eustaquio said.
“But the athletes today, they are really on a different level. I did my best, but it wasn’t enough for a finish.”
Eustaquio praised Team Lakay for preparing him well, because although he didn’t get the desired finish, he looked mighty impressive.
“I have to credit my training camp. It’s one of the best I’ve had. I also have the best team on my back, the best coach by my side, and it’s because of that preparation that I was able to perform like this,” he said.
It’s not like Eustaquio didn’t try to get the sensational finish; he worked his strikes in the early goings of the match before attempting late submissions. It was just that his foe was as sturdy as they come.
“I tested the waters in the striking department, but he was really tough. I actually hurt my wrist hitting him, but he was just taking it,” Eustaquio said.
“We had a chance to go to the ground, but he was no slouch there either. He had that will to finish the match, and he went to Singapore with the intent of really winning. I give him credit; he was really tough.”
