Global apparel retailer UNIQLO on Tuesday launched its new +J collection in stores and online, marking the comeback collection of legendary designer Jil Sander.
After their first collaboration in 2009, Sander brings anew her signature modern style to Uniqlo's exceptional line for women and men.
“It is with the appreciation and excitement of working with Ms. Jil Sander that I announce the return of the +J collection," said Tadashi Yanai, Chairman, President and CEO of Fast Retailing.
"A shared respect for modernity and timeless design is evident in our latest collaboration, particularly in sophisticated, everyday essentials that are well-suited to life today,” he added.
Sander, for her part, said the +J collection reflects her concept of a global modern uniform.
“I set out to define the global modern uniform with this in mind: Clothes should be long-lasting and enduring. They should serve the wearer and give her or him the energy and self-assurance which is so much needed in our global reality,” Sander said.
The Fall/Winter 2020 +J collection features sophisticated essentials for women and men featuring versatile, iconic pieces. Fine tailoring and sculptural shapes come together with an overall balance of proportion, ease, and comfort. Distinct lines give definition to moving panels and architectural silhouettes. Volumes, while generous, are well fitted.
A variety of quality materials has been employed, ranging from functional fabrics to herringbone tweed. Weaves and surface treatments animate the pieces with an almost tactile visual impact. Sartorial points of interest lie in the fine workmanship of pockets, zippers, stitching, and contrast lining.
Outerwear designs include hybrid down styles, utility-inspired jackets, military blousons, and cashmere blend coats with a full yet body conscious cut. Tailored jackets and gabardine pants in wool feature a papery finish while luxe oversized shirts come in a classic palette from ivory to black and white, or with playful contrasting color patterns. Sweaters are beautifully knit from fine-gauge cashmere to extra fine merino wool and blends. Long knit dresses and a sculptural skirt display an aesthetic of energy and purity.
The lineup includes 32 items for women, 25 items for men, and four accessories.
