Six club teams who are part of the Premier Volleyball League have agreed to turn professional.

And this is the direction that the league will take when they meet with the Games and Amusement Board today.

Sports Vision president Ricky Palou said this ahead of their meeting with GAB chairman Abraham Mitra and an announcement that they will be making this Friday evening.

"We sat down with him (Mitra) three to four weeks ago. Ang worry namin is the financial aspect, kawawa ang teams. He assured us na, ‘Hindi kami BIR.’ We just want to make sure na maganda ang pagtakbo ng mga liga,” said Palou in a statement.

Among the clubs who want to be part of a professional volleyball organization are Creamline, Petro Gazz, Motolite, Choco Mucho, Banko Perlas, and BaliPure.

As pro league, PVL will start holding a professional status during the start of its 2021 season.

This will make the PVL the second women’s sports league in the country to turn pro. They will follow the path taken by the Women's National Basketball League.

Palou believes that the time is ripe for the PVL to turn pro.

Organizers believe that there are plenty of women’s volleyball players in the country who can form part of a pro pool and make this happen.
