E-bike group rejects LTO’s licensing requirements

A group of environmentalists which recently launched the One Million E-sikleta project for the new normal on Thursday opposed the Land Transportation Office’s issuance of a driver’s license to users and the vehicles’ registration as well.

Dr. Leo Olarte, Clean Air Philippines Movement Inc. president, said requiring a driver’s license for e-scooter and e-bike riders could not help the government’s efforts to bring back the economy to recovery amid the decision of President Rodrigo Duterte’s reversion to the one-meter distancing within mass transport.

Instead of the LTO driver’s license requisite for the e-bikers, a safe transport adherent to the minimum health standards, especially on social distancing, must be encouraged and supported, Olarte said.
