The University Athletic Association of the Philippines will still lean on ABS-CBN Corp. as its broadcast partner for Season 83.

Games of UAAP’s Season 83 will still be broadcast by ABS-CBN, according to an official of incoming host La Salle.

Edwin Reyes, board representative of Season 83 host De La Salle University said this Friday after the House of Representatives’ Committee on Legislative Franchises denied the media giant’s application for a franchise.

“We are not leaving them behind, they are still our broadcast partner,” said Reyes, who added the league will wait for the network’s executives on how they will go about the broadcast of the coming season.

The format is still unclear and will depend on the league’s meeting with the network’s executives.

Livestreaming on the internet or block timing with another TV network are still up for discussion.

For now, there is still no date when Season 83 will begin.

Lack of venues for games are holding up preparations, which is just one of the hurdles confronting the incoming hosts.

Most of the venues that the league usually uses to stage the games are currently being used as testing centers or quarantine facilities for coronavirus patients.

Board members have limited their talks to the closing ceremony being planned to end Season 82.

Reyes said the league needs advise from the government and the Interagency Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases on when they can proceed with the coming season.

The decision to deny the renewal of the network’s franchise took place when 70 solons voted in favor of the “Resolution Denying the Franchise Application of ABS-CBN Corporation to Construct, Install, Establish, Operate, and Maintain Radio and Broadcasting Stations in the Philippines.”
