Baguio City's Roxanne Allison Baeyens was crowned Miss Philippines Earth 2020 in the pageant's first virtual coronation telecast live on GMA-7 Sunday morning.

Baeyens, 23, bested 32 other candidates vying for the coveted crown.

During the final question and answer, the final five candidates were asked "What important quality should a leader display amidst a pandemic?"

“A leader should display having a green thumb because at this point in time we have a shortage in food supply so it's important to open the eyes of people to embrace having a sustainable life to start urban agriculture at their own homes, after all, a green life is a better life and I hope the leader will give that to us,” Baeyens answered.

In the first round of the Q&A, Baeyens was asked, "What is your take on social distancing, wearing a mask, and washing your hands more often?"

“I think taking social distancing and taking proper precaution is should still be continued despite us being in GCQ. We are allowed to go back to our jobs not because it is safe but because livelihood is important so let us not put our guards down let's continue to take cautions and let's work in solidarity to put an end to this pandemic,” she replied.

This is the first time for Miss Philippines Earth to hold the pageant online – and remotely. It's also one of the first local pageants to push through with its finals after the country was placed on lockdown because of the coronavirus pandemic.
