Southeast Asian Games marathon champion Christine Hallasgo is back in training in Malaybalay, Bukidnon.
After spending two weeks in quarantine, the 27-year-old Hallasgo is slowly going back to outdoor training.
“Katatapos ko lang ng quarantine. Plano ko bumalik sa training,” said Hallasgo in an interview.
She is being guided online by his coach Eduardo Buenavista on how to restart her efforts on endurance activities.
Hallasgo went through an ordeal in going back home in Bukidnon.
She was supposed to return home on March 16, a day after the enhanced Luzon-wide lockdown was imposed.
That was when she got stranded after being unable to get a flight from the Clark International Airport in Pampanga.
Luckily, the Philippine Sports Commission found out about her situation and provided her a place to stay at Philsports facilities in Pasig.
And that was until she was able to get a flight back home, to be with her family, her husband Wilmer and daughter Tricia Mae.
Her home is far from the city proper, which is the reason why Hallasgo feels that she can train safely and on her own.
“Unti unti lang ako na nagsisimula ulit. Dalawang linggo din ako natigil,” added Hallasgo.
Hallasgo is best remembered for snatching the marathon crown from Mary Joy Tabal during the Southeast Asian Games and the Milo national championship.
She is being groomed by the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association to join Olympic qualifiers when quarantine protocols have been lifted throughout the country.
