No room for complacencyDespite being one of the more popular love teams in local showbiz, Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo don’t want to feel relaxed. Though the entertainment business had a little pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they don’t want to lose steam by sitting pretty.

In an online interview, Daniel admits that he doesn’t want to complacent when it comes to dealing with their career.

No room for complacency
STURDY TANDEM. KathNiel is one of the top love teams ruling TV ratings and the box office today.

“KathNiel has been here for 11 years now and even if people say we’re already a tried and tested screen tandem, still the doubt is there as to until when the public will support us,” he avers.

Looking back, it was in 2011 when they first got paired in the defunct youth-oriented show Growing Up. After that, they’ve starred in numerous hit projects until they became one of the most in-demand screen pairings in the ‘biz.

Considering the length of time that they’re together, it’s still a challenge for them to keep KathNiel relevant to the public.

“I’ve appeared with Kathryn in numerous romantic movies and soap operas. The challenge there is to always come up with something fresh for the viewers.”

DJ revealed that many doubted if their 2018 movie The How’s of Us would still click. He said many questioned their bankability. People asked if the project would still make money considering that they’ve done almost everything on the screen. Fortunately, The How’s of Us turned out to be a mammoth hit. Currently, it holds the distinction as the second highest-grossing Filipino film.

“With the film’s commercial success, it became more challenging and satisfying at the same time. As I’ve said, it’s not easy. We really have to work hard. There should be variety in the storylines or else, the public will get tired of us.”

Daniel could still remember those times when he got bashed for being Kathryn’s love team. The latter was fresh from the success of Mara Clara while he was just starting to build a name for himself.

“Yes! That’s the first time when I got really bashed. Kathryn was originally paired with Albie Casino. People questioned why for her next show, the management chose me to be her partner,” DJ recalls.

Determined, this didn’t dampen DJ’s spirits. It even motivated him to prove his detractors wrong.

“Instead of getting affected, I exerted extra efforts to improve in my craft. As a newcomer, I had to show them that I’ve got what it takes and I’m worthy to be Kathryn’s new screen partner. The rest, as they say, is history.”

KathNiel’s next potboiler is After Forever, production temporarily stopped because of the COVID-19 crisis.

In a recent Instagram post, Liza Soberano officially shed light on the cancellation of her soap opera Make It With You opposite Enrique Gil.

“I am heartbroken to confirm the news that our show will no longer resume on air,” she says.

“We were still asked to go back taping but most of the cast members, including myself hesitated. For one, considering that the COVID-19 situation here in the Philippines is far from contained, there are many risks in place for me (and everyone involved) given my history of having a weak immune system.”

No room for complacency
Liza Soberano’s heart goes out to the avid fans of ‘Make It With You’ who will no longer see the ending of the top-rating series.

The decision didn’t come from her solely.

“I consulted my family, my managers, and the team and we all came to an agreement that it might be for the best to not continue with the show anymore. Apart from the cast members’ hesitation, there are other factors as well why the show will not air anymore.”

Liza is just sad primarily for the viewers. She apologized to the fans of the primetime show since they will no longer be able to give them the ending they deserve.
