Fast food chains, restaurants, and other food establishments in Luzon were quick to implement measures to ensure customer safety. Also, many—big chains and small brands—do their part to lend a hand by providing food (and even shelter) to frontliners and those in need.
At the moment, food establishments open only offer food for pick up, drive-thru, and delivery.
Earlier, Jollibee, McDonald’s, and KFC announced that they would be limiting operations in Luzon, in addition to following stricter safety measures in handling and delivering food items.
Jollibee said it would be closing down stores in Luzon “as a result of the enhanced community quarantine.”
“For those that are still open, we shall be offering drive-thru and delivery services, as well as take out (only for stores allowed by local ordinances).”
Jollibee also announced its intensified sanitation and social distancing protocols by (1) disinfecting all delivery equipment before and after each use; (2) requiring all riders and crew to wash their hands, wear face masks, and go through regular temperature check; (3) and by implementing contactless delivery, wherein riders will keep a six-feet distance during transactions as customers get their order directly from the delivery bag, and leave their payment and get their change in the container provided.
McDonald’s also announced its “no-touch” delivery method in select areas (Read: Fast food implements ‘no-touch’ delivery published on March 16), allowing proper social distancing between the customer and rider.
Orders can be made via hotline, app, McDelivery website, GrabFood, and foodpanda.
It also reported safety procedures followed by all crew members, and the sanitation of delivery equipment before and after each use.
Delivery hours for McDonald’s Luzon-based stores are limited from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., “but may vary per area depending on store availability.”
Meanwhile, KFC has opened select stores to accept takeout and delivery orders. Customers can visit kfc.com.ph to have their orders delivered.
However, McDonald’s and KFC both temporarily suspend their delivery time policy to accommodate as many orders as possible.
GrabFood and foodpanda also announced the implementation of contactless delivery.
For GrabFood, delivery partners will place the order at the specified location (per the customer), and let the customer pick up their order while they stand at least six feet away.
The delivery service “strongly” encourages consumers to opt for cashless payment. Those paying with cash may place the amount in an envelope and leave it where their order is placed.
Foodpanda’s contactless delivery requires customers to use online payment and contact their driver to instruct them to leave food at the door.
“Riders can request contactless deliveries, too, after receiving your order. If this happens, the customer’s cooperation is much appreciated,” said foodpanda.
