With the government’s advise to stay home during the Metro Manila-wide community quarantine, many are finding ways to follow and survive the period. Ordering food has become one of the smart ways to stay away from the public.

To further ensure customer safety, fast food chain MacDonald’s Philippines on March 14 announced the implementation of its No-Touch delivery.

McDonald’s Philippines implements a ‘no-touch’ delivery to ensure customer safety.

“We are implementing No-Touch deliveries in select areas and are stepping up our procedures to ensure cleanliness and safety— from our store, to our riders, and to your door,” McDonald’s said in a statement.

The No-Touch delivery means customers will receive their orders without direct contact from the riders.

The procedure works in five steps: (1) the rider will ask the customer where they should place the McDelivery backpack; (2) the rider will place the backpack at the specified spot, and will take 10 steps back; (3) the customer can then open the backpack, take out their order, and check if it’s complete; (4) get the pouch and pay—for cash payments, put the cash in the pouch; for online payments, sign the slip; (5) put the pouch back in the backpack, step back and let the rider know they can retrieve the backpack.

In addition to this new delivery method, the fast food chain reported proper handling of food is followed from the store to delivery.

“The crew washes their hands before handling your orders. They also make sure that your order is complete before putting it in the takeout bag,” said McDonald’s.

Meanwhile the takeout bags are sealed for safety, with a note that says it is a “No-Touch Delivery.”

The McDelivery backpacks and pouches used are sanitized every two hours.

Lastly, the fast food chain requires its riders’ to have their temperatures checked before leaving the store, to wash their hands before and after every delivery, and to wear face masks every time they deliver. They are also provided with rubbing alcohol in their belt bags for their use.
