Gig De Pio finds order in chaos

Visual artist Gig De Pio flourishes, so to speak, in the midst of chaos by highlighting what’s beautiful.

Pieces from his “Flourishing” collection are currently on exhibit at Rustan’s Makati, as part of the premier department store’s Rustan’s for the Arts series. It previously featured Ben Cabrera, Al Perez, Paulina Luz Sotto, Fernando Amorsolo, Arturo Luz, and Anita Magsaysay Ho.

De Pio describes his collection as an appreciative view of the universe. “It is a matter of perception and where the point of reference is; just a matter of finding gestalt in the random of things and events around the perceiver,” he said.

His abstracts on display, which include an “installation painting” piece, illustrate the randomness of occurrences and encounters at intersections, which may happen repeatedly to become events.

The paintings as a whole reflect his view of the world that makes order out of chaos. Some pieces were created specifically for Rustan’s for the Arts.

De Pio was present during the launch which gathered Filipino artists, art critics, art enthusiasts, and more. In attendance to the gathering were Cid Reyes, Gus Albor, Junyee, Al Perez, Dante Silverio, Heber Bartolome, Louie Locsin, Lior Liechtenstein, Lyn Gamboa, Celia Molano, Malee Bigornia, Richie Macapinlac, and Ross Capili, to name a few.

“Flourishing: A Celebration of Creativity” is on view at Rustan’s Makati today until March 31. It will then move to Rustan’s Shangri-La in April.
