About 200 residents of the MS The World, the largest privately owned residential yacht in the world, explored the various cultural heritage sites in Ilocos Norte on Monday.

Docked at the Port of Currimao, MS The World is operated by ROW Management Ltd. It is equipped with 165 luxury apartments and world-class features such as a casino, a full-size tennis court, a golf simulator, a jogging track, and a theater, among others.

The passengers had the opportunity to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site St. Augustine Church, the Malacañang of the North in Paoay, and other tourist attractions in the Cities of Laoag and Batac, and the Municipality of Badoc.

“They had limited time. The passengers have a maximum of eight hours to go around. Hopefully in the future, if The World has longer time the ship goes overnight, we can bring the passengers as far as Pagudpud.”

After its maiden arrival in the province, The World’s next stop will be in Cebu before it will return to Hong Kong.

On the same day, the Spectrum of the Seas of the Royal Caribbean International completed its second call at the Salomague Port in Ilocos Sur with thousands of international passengers visiting the Ilocos provinces.  Its next arrival is on Feb. 26 this year.

“We are expecting more dockings in the future as the Department of Tourism and the national government has pledged their support in developing our ports and making Ilocos Norte one of the main cruise ports in the country,” Xavier Ruiz, Provincial Tourism Operations Officer II, shared.

With the pilot arrival of Superstar Virgo at Currimao Port in 2017, Ilocos Norte welcomed a steady stream of international cruise ships  in the province which prompted the sustainable development of tourist attractions, local livelihoods, and employment opportunities.
