Young stars Angel Guardian and Kelvin Miranda look so pleasant together. The two are pairing for the first time in a love story made for digital format, Beauty and the Hypebeast, which starts airing tomorrow on GMA 7 and on the network’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.
In an intimate pocket press conference for the show, Angel and Kelvin shared their experience filming the digital short film. They said they were able to complete the shoot in just one day.
“It was tedious but fun. The short film only runs for a few minutes but the shots are intricate so we had to give our best,” Angel beamed.
“It’s fun working with Angel. We were guided by a brilliant director and hardworking crew. So, even if it’s tiring we all had a great time while on the set,” Kelvin added.
Beauty and the Hypebeast tells the story of senior high students Cat (Angel) and Joe (Kevin) who, while belonging to two different cliques, find themselves drawn to each other.
Feeling superior because of their social status and appearance, Cat’s friends and classmates look down on groups such as those that Joe belongs to. They do not want to be associated with people they call ‘jologs’ and ‘hypebeast’—two words that they used to describe Joe and his group the first time they saw them grooving to the fast beat dance “Budots.” Cat’s friends even took a video of Joe and his group and uploaded it online to feed the bashers.
Her friends are not aware of it, but Joe and Cat are actually close. In an unexpected turn of events, Cat’s and Joe’s friends find themselves in one place. How will Cat react when Joe approaches her and drops the bomb among their friends—that they actually plan on having a date?
Beauty and the Hypebeast is GMA Public Affairs’ second digital short film for One Hugot Away. Its first offering, Walang Label, was well-received on-air and online, reaching the million mark in terms of views just a few days after it was uploaded online.
Viewers and netizens also lauded the acting skills and natural chemistry of Shaira Diaz and David Licauco. The first part of the video hit one million views four days after it was uploaded on GMA Network’s Facebook account last March 25; with the full version similarly getting 1 million views four days after it went live online last March 29.
This time around, One Hugot Away brings to the spotlight the team up of young stars Angel and Kelvin. One of the newest addition to the roster of artists under GMA Music, Angel has been part of the primetime drama series Sahaya, playing the role of the young Irene (Ana Roces), and Onanay as Chelsea. She has also appeared in various TV commercials.
Kelvin, on the other hand, has been part of various TV series such as Contessa, Ang Forever Ko’y Ikaw, Kambal, Karibal, and Magpakailanman, and movies like Walwal, Haunted Forest, and Jose Bartolome: Guro. He is part of Mikhail Red’s upcoming youth-thriller-crime film, Dead Kids.
Written by James Harvey Estrada, Beauty and the Hypebeast is directed by Zig Dulay with Carlo Balaquiot as Executive Producer. It will air on TV during the commercial gaps ofKapuso Movie Festival, Kara Mia, and the latest K-drama Are You Human? from Monday to Thursday with the finale airing on June 6 during the commercial gap of Are You Human?.
