Wednesday next week, fans of romantic dramas on the big screen should be happy to know that Sid & Aya (Not A Love Story) will open in theaters nationwide. This is a Viva Films project with Dingdong Dantes and Anne Curtis.
The two were in the teen-oriented TGIS many years ago, and this project excited both of them to no end.
Why is the tagline of the film “Not A Love Story”?
According to Sid, the character Dantes plays in the film, “Hindi naman lahat ng may ‘I love you’ ay love story na, eh.”
Sid is an insomniac who meets a mysterious woman named Aya. He asks her to spend time with him as he battles those long sleepless and empty nights. Anne Curtis plays Aya who says that her pairing with Dingdong after a long time made her discover a lot of things about his former co-star in TGIS. Dantes also felt the same way when they were shooting the movie. “Ang laki na ng ipinagbago ni Anne,” he exclaimed.
Irene Villamor whose first foray into full length film directing for Viva was Camp Sawi that was followed soon after by the critically acclaimed Meet Me in St. Gallen directed Sid & Aya. Already, many of those who enjoyed her first two features are waiting for the movie to open in theaters.
Based on the trailer of the movie, Dantes and Curtis have very strong chemistry as a pair on screen. They have sizzling scenes together (with the permission from both real-life partners, I suppose).
Some of the most important scenes in the movie were shot in Japan.
The cast has been on a tour to promote the film. Today they will be in Gateway Cineplex in Cubao at 4:00 p.m. and at 6:00 p.m. they will motor to Ayala Malls Feliz. Tomorrow, they will be at SM City Bicutan (4:00 p.m.) and SM City Sta. Rosa (6:00 p.m.). On Monday, the movie will be premiered at Trinoma at 7:30 p.m. with a red carpet prior to the screening.
On June 7, Filipinos in the Middle East can also watch the films, while those in the US it will be screened the day after. Pinoys in Rome and Hong Kong should watch out for the release dates in those cities.
We all know that before Meghan Markle became the fiancée of UK’s Prince Harry, she was an actor and she was in the popular series Suits.

I wonder why many Filipinos, and sometimes that includes myself, can’t help but criticize what they see on TV.
During the coverage of the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Saturday last week, I saw a lot of negative posts on FB about the wedding. Some were bashing the bride’s gown (by British designer Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy), the lengthy (14 minutes) sermon of the Most Reverend Michael Curry, presiding bishop and primate of the Episcopal Church (the American member church of the Anglican Communion). Its unexpected length caused the service to overrun by eight minutes.
But, I posted on FB “ Can’t we just be spectators and not critics?” After all, we couldn’t alter what was going on or even tell the Prince and Meghan to change what was in the programme. As one friend always said before, “Let it be na lang. Di ba.” If that was your wedding, then you could do something not like what you saw on TV, maybe even better, but please make sure it’s better or the joke will be on you.
I’d like to commend CNN’s team of anchors, correspondents and contributors that covered the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle – Anderson Cooper, Alisyn Camerota, and Don Lemon along with CNN’s Royal correspondent Max Foster, CNNI anchor Richard Quest, senior international correspondent Clarissa Ward and fashion expert Joe Zee. Also the CNN Royal commentators Victoria Arbiter and Kate Williams, culture commentator Bonnie Greer, CNN contributor and author Sally Bedell Smith, Prince Harry biographer Angela Levin and Boston University dean and Megan Markle’s former theater professor at Northwestern University, Dr. Harvey Young. Reporting throughout the day from various locations and events around Windsor, were CNN reporters Kate Bennett, Jason Carroll, Bianca Nobilo, Isa Soares and Nick Watt.
That was how a news channel covers a Royal Wedding and that’s how anchors and commentators behave by not trivializing the event.
