ANGELO Chung won his first gold medal in the kickboxing event of the 2017 Pre-Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games tournament at the Harrison Plaza in Manila.

The 43-year-old Chung, who spent many years in the Middle East as a fight instructor, topped the 68 to 70-kg low kick class after winning by unanimous decision over Jervie Tuason.

“Dinaan ko sa mga combination kicks na natutunan ko sa yaw-yan kampilan,” said Chung, who will now be evaluated if he will get a chance to see action in the tournament proper of the AIMAG  from Sept. 17 to 27 in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

Other winners were Robin Catalan, who won via unanimous decision against Jeronil Borres in the 57kg class.

Camilo Rey Seneres and Jeric Magno both settled for bronze in the 57-kg full contact kickboxing category.

On the other hand, 23-year-old Richelle Piollo claimed two gold medals in two wrestling disciplines.

That’s after she ruled the women’s 50kg belt classic wrestling after beating Grace Loberanes of Philippine Navy.

Piollo, an engineering student from Mapua, then took her second gold in the 52kg women’s traditional wrestling.

The other winners in traditional wrestling were Marie Pasaylo of University of Santo Tomas (classic 58 kg), Maxwell Francisco (men’s 68 kg), Runieth Decano (75 kg), Chino Sy (82 kg), and Richard Agosto (+100 kg).

In sambo, Reydon Romero of Deftac dominated the 68-kg men’s action after stopping Augustus Bayas of the University of Santo Tomas.

Rogelio Enumerables stamped his class in the 62-kg side, while Genil Francisco (57 kg) of the D’Elements MMA Warriors stood his ground over Catalan for the gold, and former fighter wushu prevailed over Danilo Dilag for the 52-kg honors.

Maribel Angana waylaid Jomary Torres in the clash for the women’s 52-kg gold, while Meek Dolores(60 kg), Shanessa Tena (52 kg) and Princess Cortez (56 kg) won over their foes in their respective weight classes.
