Justice probes prosecutor’s slay

A government prosecutor was shot and killed by motorcycle-riding men in front of his house in Caloocan City Monday morning.

Caloocan City prosecutor Diosdado Azarcon was shot three times in the head right outside his home along Capas Street, Barangay 63 near 9th Avenue.

Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II immediately directed the National Bureau of Investigation to investigate the killing of Azarcon.

Initial report said that shortly after 8 a.m. Azarcon was about to approach his car parked  a few meters from his home when he was shot by motorcycle-riding suspects numbering to six, all wearing face masks.  The motorcycles were had no license plates.

The suspects on board three motorcycles fled after the shooting incident, the report said.

The NBI has already dispatched a team to investigate the shooting of the prosecutor.

Azarcon is the fourth prosecutor attacked since October 2016.

Last February, Surigao City Prosecutor Manuel Navarro Tesioma was shot outside his house. Early this year, Quezon City Prosecutor Noel Mingoa was shot at close range while outside a restaurant along Commonwealth Avenue.

In October last year, Mat-i City Prosecutor Rolando Acide was shot to death outside Mat-i City Hall of Justice.
