Drug surrenderers in Muntinlupa recently expressed their trust and confidence in city authorities that would “do them well rather than harm” after completing their rehabilitation program and getting livelihood assistance.

The 623 persons under the Mamamayan at Pamilya Laban sa Droga or MAPALAD program showed their gratitude to the city government during a Christmas party and gift-giving event last Wednesday 7 p.m. at the Muntinlupa City Hall Quadrangle in Barangay Putatan.

The MAPALAD beneficiaries and their families received grocery packages, rice subsidy, and gift packs from the LGU as part of the local Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Council’s reintegration program for illegal drug personalities.

Muntinlupa City Mayor Jaime Fresnedi

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi promised them that the city government would remain their partners in leaving their life on drugs. “We will always keep your best interest in mind because only by doing so, the problem on illegal drugs and its adverse effects will reach full resolution and recovery,” Fresnedi said.

All but five of the beneficiaries and their families will receive scholarships, enrollment in technical-vocational institution, and zero-interest loan financing for business start-ups, after a screening process.

Fresnedi advocates not only the arrest of drug personalities but also their recuperation, as he focuses on a holistic approach for the campaign against illegal drugs.

As of December, almost 3,000 drug personalities have surrendered to local police and barangay officials.
